IRISA is a joint research unit (UMR 6074) created in 1975 between a number of key local research partners, including University of Rennes 1, CNRS, INSA Rennes and ENS Cachan. IRISA is also associated with Inria. IRISA conducts research in computer science, applied mathematics and signal and image processing. These subjects tie in with the activities of the EIT ICT Labs consortium, of which University of Rennes is a member, and the strategic priorities of the Images and Networks innovation cluster. Both will be used by this project for dissemination.
IRISA is highly integrated in the Brittany’s research landscape (Media and networks cluster, Ouest-Génopole, PRES UEB), and will therefore offer an optimal environment to support, sustain, and help disseminate the research put forward in this proposal. IRISA contributes to a large number of projects funded at the national, European, and international level, and enjoys significant collaborations with the industrial world (Orange Labs, Lucent-Alcatel, Technicolor). Several start-ups have also been launched based on its research activities.
IRISA is deeply involved in training, through its academic staff and its permanent researchers, who contribute to the teaching programmes of the Université of Rennes 1, INSA Rennes (IT Department), and ENS Cachan (Brittany site, IT department). The scientific activity of IRISA is organised in 7 research departments. The research proposed in this project will particularly tie in with the work of Department D1 - Large Scale Systems.
